Granite is among the most durable and popular of all stones used in homes and commercial businesses throughout the Chicago area. Granite is particularly desirable as a kitchen counter top material because it’s hard, dense surface resists heat well. It’s surface is also excellent for kneading dough. While durable and low maintenance, granite is not impervious to damage. That’s because all granite is made up of many different minerals, some of which may be very soft and that means granite can be easily scratched, chipped or broken along the grain.
Over time, everyday wear and tear may necessitate re-polishing the surface of your granite in worn some areas.
Maintaining the polished finish of granite can be obtained with regular care that includes professional cleaning and resealing to ensure the longevity of this beautiful natural stone product. At CSI-Absolute Clean Inc., we can give your granite surfaces the proper attention it needs when it comes to cleaning and maintaining it.
At CSI-Absolute Clean Inc, we provide professional polishing, honing, cleaning, sealing and restoration services to bring back the original beauty and luster of your marble’s surface. An etch is a dulling mark on stone that appears as a stain. An etch is a chemical reaction between the calcium in the stone and any liquid that has an acidic PH
Liquids such as beverages, food items and cosmetic items with an acidic PH can etch the finish of your stone.
The acidic nature of any item will react to the calcium in your stone leaving a dull mark that cannot be removed with cleaning.
Scratches can occur on softer stones such as marble, limestone, travertine, onyx and soapstone.
Scratches ruin the finish of your stone and cannot be removed with cleaning.
Our natural stone cleaning systems are performed to IICRC standards for S210 stone restoration. We use the most cutting-edge technology to deliver the ABSOLUTE BEST CLEAN. Our standard natural stone cleaning process removes any topical soil. Any staining or damage not removed by our standard natural stone cleaning process will require either a “partial restoration” or a “full restoration”.
Pre-Treatment: spray application of our alkaline trimix chemical with the purpose of breaking the surface tension of the soil, penetrating the grout in order to defloculate imbedded soil. It then breaks down soil and suspends it in the water molecule/cleaning detergent for easy removal.
Agitation: Manual or Mechanical – Aids the Pre-Treatment to saturate, and helps further loosen soil.
Extract: done via truck mount or portable machine vacuums off suspended soil in water molecules
Rinse: Triple Steam rinse flushes out any dirt remaining in the tile & grout ensuring full removal.
Emulsify: a chemical rinse that is the 2nd rinse step synergistically reacts with the pre-treatment to attract all chemical and soil to the surface
Neutralize: a chemical rinse that is the 3rd step in the rinse step that flushes all residue and solutions out, neutralizes them, and brings the tile & grout PH back to balance PH7 to prevent re-soiling.
Speed dry: expedite drying to eliminate/avoid efflorescence
Dry Buff: Removes any remaining residue, also aids to expedite drying
Seal: Application of appropriate deep impregnating/penetrating sealer. (sealers may vary depending on the type of stone)
Final Buff: Ensures full penetration of sealer, removes any excess sealer residue.

Natural stone covers a broad spectrum of materials such as marble, granite, slate, terrazzo, onyx, blue stone, sand stone, travertine, limestone, flagstone, among the more popular. Each type branches out to several different families. For example, Marble has over 15 common types that are quarried from all over the world, and all range in hardness, patterns, application, finishes. To further explain, you may have a mosaic – emperador brown – polished finish – 3/8″ used on a floor application. To make a long story short, every floor is different, and likewise would have different need of service.
Natural stone covers a wide array of materials such as marble, granite, limestone, travertine, terrazzo, onyx, sandstone, flagstone, bluestone and slate. These materials come in many different styles of finish such as polished, honed, tumbled, flamed, antiqued, textured, and natural. In today’s market, the use of natural stone has grown in demand, and the dynamics of which they are used range anywhere from floors, to countertops, to wall coverings both interior, and exterior.
All natural stones are pores by nature, which means they need to be sealed regularly to prevent staining. Natural stones that are placed in a high moisture area such as showers, and countertops need to be sealed more often. The schedule for re-sealing natural stone depends on several factors such as amount of use, hardness of water in the area/city, and the types of chemicals used or come in direct contact with natural stone surfaces.
Along with being pores, natural stones are PH sensitive. High PH cleaners may dull your finish, and remove existing sealers. Acidic PH chemicals may etch and damage a finish, and cause pitting. Contrary to popular belief, vinegar water is NOT a good way to clean natural stone. Vinegar, along with most food items and beverages are acidic in PH and may ruin the finish of your stone.
